Question: What is the opening size of the loop part of the hook?
Answer: If you are talking about the gap for something to slide in the hook, I am measuring 1" to 1 1/8" opening.
Question: Is it comfortable?
Answer: The lawnmower that I strap down says it's very comfortable.
Question: Would these work for tying down a dog crate in a van?
Answer: As long as you have good anchor points in the van on either side of the crate, these should work great. Hooks are 1/2in thick round metal with a latch clearance of 7/8in.
